NURSES CLUB

                                                                    The Villages Nurses Club

The meeting was called to order by President Faye Davis, who led the Pledge of Allegiance.
13 new nurses joined the Club. In response to a query from a member, Faye reported that the total Club membership is about 400. Active club members are about 200.

Faye reminded members that notice of future meetings can be found in The Villages Recreation & Parks publication on the Thursday prior to each meeting. Minutes and other Club news can be found at the Club web site: She asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting on the web site. A motion was received from Nancy Rush, seconded by Peggy Russo, and approved by all.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month. Doors open at 11:30 AM with the business meeting beginning at 12:30 PM. 

Snacks for the April meeting will be provided by members whose last names begin with X, Y and Z

Special thanks are offered today for the donations from Club members for “Seeds of Hope.”

Sign-up sheets are available on the activities table for Mah Jongg and Golf. There is also information about obtaining CEUs and AED/CPR training through The Villages. 

An Ocala newspaper announcement for “Celebration of Nurses” to be held in Ocala on May 17 can be found there. As more information about it becomes available we will publish it. 

The dates for a tour of Elan Buena Vista have not been determined. When they are, members are reminded to wear their Club membership name tags.

Lorraine Daniels reported the treasury stands at $2515.67. This includes membership fees, raffle and scholarship 

donations. The goal for the scholarship fund in $1500 and our progress can be found in a chart at the raffle table.

Election of officers will take place in April. Pat Keeney announced the current slate of officers:

President – Marilyn Lanzone
Vice President – Madge Koscelnik
Treasurer – Lorraine Daniels
Recording Secretary – Judi Terraciano
Corresponding Secretary – Christine McLean
No further nominations were received from the membership. 

Since Madge is slated for Vice President, Sue Nelson will be taking her place as Membership Chairman. Joann Hisey, former Corresponding Secretary, will be the Program Chairman.

Marilyn Lanzone spoke of the May celebration. It will be on May 8, and tickets will be available today and in April 

for $20.00. The nursing dedication will take place in the theater at the Savannah Center, followed by a catered luncheon, installation of officers and introduction of the scholarship winner(s).

Peggy Russo introduced the featured speaker, Turner Davis. Mr. Davis is a pharmacist at Medical Marijuana Treatment Clinics of Florida, located in Summerfield. He spoke about the Endocannabinoid System and the various indications for the use of medical marijuana. A question and answer session followed.

The speaker for the April meeting will be Michelle Wienke, Family Care Specialist, whose topic will be ”Organ and 

Tissue Donation Services.”

The raffle was held with 3 $25 prizes awarded.

The meeting adjourned at 2 PM.
