The Villages Nurses Club
October 10, 2017
Savannah Center

The meeting was called to order by President Faye Davis, who led the Pledge of Allegiance.  9 new members were introduced.

The members were reminded that information about Club activities can be found on The Nurses Club web site.  

Faye also stated that Village ID cards must be available to The Villages staff at each meeting, and that Club ID badges should be worn when participating in Club-sponsored tours.

The next meeting will be on November 14 at the Savannah Center.  The November speaker will be Michael Pittman, RN, Chief Clinical Officer at The Villages Regional Hospital.  Mr. Pittman request that all questions posed to him address improvements in patient care.  Faye mentioned that 3” X 5” cards are on each table for members to write their questions for speakers.

The November meeting will include recognition of Club members who are military veterans.  Those who are veterans should make themselves known to Faye or Peggy Russo.

Refreshments for the November meeting are to be provided by members whose last names start with H, I, J, and K.

Lorraine Daniels announced the treasury stands at $880.14.  Dues are still $5.00 yearly.  Please address checks to “Villages Nurses Club.”  $1500.00 was awarded to the scholarship winner in 2017.  The scholarship fund is supported by the 50/50 raffle.

Vicky DeShaw described the LifeStream collection.  She explained that The Villages Nurses Club chose LifeStream as the charity it wished to sponsor several years ago.  LifeStream elderly clients are selected to suggest gifts they would like to receive.  In 2016, $1167.00 was donated by Club members, and gifts purchased for 11 clients.  Donations are collected during October and November of each year.  Envelopes are circulated for collection.

Nancy Rush announced the following tours:
a. Leesburg Regional Hospital – Thursday, October 12, 2017 @ 10 AM;
b. Unova Health – Friday, November 19, 2017 @ 1:30 PM;
c. Cornerstone Hospice –Date to be determined in December.

Joann Hutchinson, Sunshine Lady of The Villages Nurses Club, advised the following members had passed away since the last meeting: Joyce Carter, Connie Tyska and Janet DePasquale.

Marilyn Lanzone discussed the Holiday Celebration, to be held on our usual meeting day – December 12.  Entertainment will be provided by Billie Thatcher.  The refreshments will be pot luck, with the following food assignments:
A – G:  Salads and dressings:
H – O:  Main Dishes;
P – T:  Desserts:
U, V, W:   Rolls/bread & butter;
X, Y, Z:  anything you choose.

Peggy Russo introduced the program committee: Joann Hisey, Stacy DeSantis,  Ellis Youngkin, Joan Cook and Peggy Russo.  

Peggy introduced the speaker for today.  Dr. Carol Gordon is a urologist, and spoke about treatment of various pelvic floor issues.

The 50/50 raffle was held.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:45PM.
